PILSEN READS !
Pilsen Reads! is our book giveaway program. Its mission is to promote literacy through access to books. Our goal is to give high-quality, high-interest books to each student in Pilsen. We allow teachers to hand-pick the books they’d like for their classroom! Here’s how it works:
(1) Submit a wish list of the titles you want for your classroom
(2) We raise money for the books through sales at our shop
(3) We purchase brand new books to use in your classroom or to give to students to take home
Any teacher can apply, but we will prioritize Pilsen teachers. Below you can learn more about the classrooms that have been supported directly by book purchases and generous donations.
"Thank you so much for the wonderful collection of books we received. My students were excited to see our new books. You definitely made our day. Thank you for allowing me to have the opportunity to give input and choose the books"
We donated a selection of new books to El Valor's block party and resource fair. El Valor is a nonprofit located here in Pilsen.
These books were for an early intervention speech therapist that works for nonprofit. We donated board books that she could give to her Spanish speaking families to take home.
"Pilsen Community Books generously donated this beautiful package full of books for kids who speak Spanish on my caseload! I can't thank them enough for their kindness and also for being one of my favorite places in Pilsen."
"The kids are sooo excited (we started off with only a few baskets of books) and they promised to help me build the library over the next couple of weeks. This is a huge deal for us, we really do not have words!!"
"The book donation was really exciting for our kids. Now, instead of having the same stories living on our shelf for long periods of time, we can rotate them regularly to fit our current study."
"Thank you for your generous donation, it helped make our Literacy Night an event to remember!"
Mrs. M. was looking for specific titles for her classroom's library so we donated $150 to her Donor's Choose campaign.
